Africa-Press – Namibia. Businessman Shapwa Kanyama has confirmed that his company Amnics Trading only has three permanent employees.

The number of permanent employees was also confirmed in a Social Security Commission document.

He said the factory can employ 50 to 80 people when in operation, manufacturing medical supplies.

Kanyama’s company stands to score big in the medical supply tender that is currently under review.

The initial amount stood at N$650 million, but was drastically reduced, as there was an error on some items. For instance, tender bids were invited for 30 million surgical gloves instead of three million.

If the tender goes ahead, the company will get a two-year contract to supply condoms worth N$111 million and other medical supplies such as needles, blades, bandages, sterilisation paper, latex examination gloves and dressing pads.

There is a huge public call to have the tender revoked.
