Africa-Press – Namibia. The official opposition party replaced its party’s chief whip Vipuakuje Muharukua with Elma Dienda during its parliamentary caucus meeting on Tuesday.
Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) presidential spokesperson Roberto Dirkse confirmed this to The Namibian.
He explained that the position of party chief whip and other positions that are not elected by congress are subject to re-election every two years.
“Honourable Dienda stood unopposed and was elected chief whip, while honourable Maximalliant Katjimune was elected as deputy chief following an election between him and honourable Celeste Becker, that he won by 11 votes to four. Thus, the entire caucus had a say in electing the whippery,” said Dirkse.
He explained that the election of Dienda has nothing to do with Muharukua’s position during the election of paramount chief of the Ovaherero Traditional Authority.
Muharukua endorsed Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) head Mike Kavekotora for the paramount chief position which was won by academic Hoze Riruako.
