Africa-Press – Namibia. THIRTY members of the Namibian Police (NamPol) are attending a four-day workshop to enhance NamPol’s communication with the public.
This was revealed by NamPol’s Inspector General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, who officially opened the workshop on Monday. He revealed that the workshop, which will run until Thursday, aims to enhance the competencies of 14 Public Relations Officers, one Community Policing Officer and 15 Regional Community Officers.
“It goes without saying, that by virtue of your roles as Regional Community Affairs Officers and Spokespersons, you have immense obligations and responsibilities to create an environment conducive to the communities for the safety and security of all residents and visitors alike in the country,” Shikongo said.
Regional Community Affairs Officers, Shikongo emphasised, are particularly expected to maintain and solicit public trust at all times through daily interactions without exposing too much.
Shikongo explained that the workshop aims to enable participants to use all forms of media and information communication tools and to empower them to deliver effective mitigating approaches when dealing with the public. Shikongo added that the workshop also aims to create mutually beneficial relations between NamPol and its stakeholders.
“This workshop could not have come at a better time as we live in an era were the media plays a vital role in both private and public institutions. Therefore, as communication officers, your duties should include informing, educating and promoting the image of the police and to maintain the established good rapport with our communities,” Shikongo said.
