Africa-Press – Namibia. JUST months after agreeing on a 3% salary increase with the government, unions have returned to the negotiating table, demanding an 8% salary increment for civil servants.
According to a letter dated 20 February 2023, addressed to prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, the Namibia Public Workers Union and the Namibia National Teachers Union are proposing 8% salary increment for 2023/2024 and 10% for 2024/2025.
The unions also want the housing allowance for management increased by 8% and for grades below management by 20%.
Furthermore, they proposed an increase in kilometre tariffs to N$7 per kilometre and a 20% transport allowance increase for below management grades.
