Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) will need more than 2 000 vehicles to successfully carry out the 2023 Population and Housing Census (PHC).
NSA executive for economic statistics Abel Sindano said this at a stakeholders’ meeting at the office of the Kavango East regional governor on Monday.
The 2023 PHC is expected to take place from 28 August to 8 September.
Sindano said the agency would be hiring about 2 800 vehicles nationally for the undertaking.
He said the majority of vehicles would be sourced from the private sector, since the government does not have a sufficient number of vehicles.
“We recognise that the government does not have vehicles, but we are in discussion with our colleagues at the Ministry of Works and Transport to see in the pool if certain cars can be made available, but the bulk of it will come from the private sector,” Sindano said.
The NSA has been allocated a total of N$706 million for the 2023/24 financial year to undertake the census.
The last census was held in 2011, while the 2021 PHC has been postponed twice.
The agency is expected to recruit around 13 000 Namibians to carry out the exercise.
