Africa-Press – Namibia. POPULAR Democratic Movement (PDM) parliamentarian, Inna Hengari, who was arrested alongside activists Michael Amushelelo and Dimbulukeni Nauyoma, was granted bail of N$5 000 on Friday morning.
Amushelelo and Nauyoma withdrew their bail application and remain in custody, their next court appearance which is scheduled to be on 29 March 2023.
The three politicians were arrested after the court rejected their application through Lawyer Kadhila Amoomo, which sought an interdict on the police’s refusal to grant them permission to host a peaceful demonstration against unemployment on Independence Day.
They were part of the group of protestors at the Katutura Youth Centre, who were told by the police to disperse in 5 minutes, and were subsequently apprehended for allegedly refusing to follow the police’s instruction.
They made their first appearance on Thursday afternoon on the charges of malicious damage to properties, inciting public violence, contravening the Public Gatherings Act and violating the court order.
