Africa-Press – Namibia. THE National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Commercial officer Umbi Karuaihe-Upi have been appointed as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Miss Namibia Organization.

This is after the corporation gained 100% shares of the beauty pageant.

This was announced last night at the Miss Namibia Pageant reveal event in Namibia’s capital city, Windhoek.

In 2022, the National Broadcaster said that it was currently in the process of acquiring full ownership of the Miss Namibia franchise, after it only owned 30% since 2018.

Earlier this year, the NBC has announced its acquisition of full ownership to the national beauty pageant organization as its new subsidiary.

The organization was founded in 1980 by Nic Kruger, with Namibia’s former model Michelle McLean as it’s first title holder to be crowned Miss Universe in 1992.

According to the organization history, the first Miss Namibia beauty pageant event was organized by the Afrikaans newspaper Die Republikein in 1980 and conducted by its founder and director at the time, Nic Kruger.

The winner Desèré Kotze was allowed to participate in the Miss Universe contest representing Namibia, but wore the South African flag.

After that, the organization was prospered by Danie Botes, who led the beauty pageant organization from 1997 to 1998 and was subsequently succeeded by Conny Maritz in 1999.
