Africa-Press – Namibia. UNAM Bokkies missed a great chance to ope up a lead at the top of the FNB Women’s Super League after they suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to Nust Babes on Sunday.
Going into the match Unam, Tura Magic and Girls & Goals were all level on 21 points at the top of the log, and Unam started as the strong favourites against the struggling Nust Babes who were third last on the log before the match.
Nust however through the form book aside as they shocked the Bokkies with a spirited performance.
Kahitu Nguvitjita opened their account with a counterattacking goal just before halftime, while she pounced again midway through the second half to put them in charge.
Unam had a lot of ball possession but could not do much as Nust’s defence kept them at bay and the final nail in Unam’s coffin came in the final 10 minutes when Nguvitjita sent a freekick into Unam’s box and the ball deflected off Unam’s Hilma Shapumba into the net.
It was a huge upset win for Nust who temporarily eased their relegation fears as they climbed two places to 10th on the log.
Tura Magic meanwhile kept their title charge going with a hard fought 4-3 victory against Beauties on Saturday.
Magic took a 2-1 halftime lead after goals by Lovisa Mulunga and Anna Marie Shikusho, with Fiola Vliete replying for Beauties.
Another Shikusho goal put Magic 3-1 ahead after the break, but Beauties fought back to equalise after goals by Vliete and Kamunikire Tjituka.
Magic however had the final say when Mulunga scored her second, and the winning goal with 10 minutes to go.
On Sunday, Beauties bounced back with an emphatic 6-1 victory against Rightway Phoenixes.
Vliete led the way with four goals, to put her well ahead on the top goal scorer’s list wit 18 goals so far this season.
Tjizeka Kamatuua and Zaondia Nizla scored one goal each for Beauties, while Tjirimejo Hindundu replied for Rightway Phoenixes.
In other matches on Saturday, Arrows Ladies beat Ramblers 3-1, Unam beat V Power Angels 4-0, Nust beat Omaheke Queens 2-0, and Namib Daughters and Ongwediva Queens drew 1-1.
In matches on Sunday, Arros beat Ongwediva 1-0, V Power Angels beat Omaheke 4-1 and Ramblers beat Namib Daughters 5-2.
