Africa-Press – Namibia. The Popular Democratic Movement has called on finance and public enterprises minister Iipumbu Shiimi to suspend National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) managing director Immanuel Mulunga within 48 hours.

The party also says it will soon move a motion to initiate a parliamentary investigation into what it said “appears to be the mafia-style corporate governance, currently unfolding at Namcor”.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the party, through its leader McHenry Venaani’s office, said: “The motion will move to have this investigation referred to a relevant parliamentary standing committee, fully invoking the powers of said committees to subpoena witnesses to appear before it, as provided for by the Powers, Privileges and Immunities of Parliament Act 17 of 1996.

“Given the nature of the current events, and in the interest of the integrity of ongoing inquiries into the matter, we call upon the minister of finance and public enterprises to suspend Immanuel Mulunga, Namcor’s managing director within the next 48 hours.”

This follows the arrest of Namcor board chairperson Jennifer Comalie on drug charges on the day the board was set to discuss possible action against Mulunga, who is accused of making an unauthorised N$100 million payment to an Angolan partner.

Comalie was yesterday released on N$7 000 bail in connection with drugs that were allegedly found in her car at Namcor’s head office on Monday.
