Africa-Press – Namibia. Botswana’s finance minister, Peggy Serame, has hailed the launch of all-hours services at the Mamuno/Trans-Kalahari border posts between Namibia and Botswana.
The operation of the neighbouring border posts 24 hours a day is expected to enhance tourism and boost economic activity between Namibia and Botswana.
The trans-Kalahari transport corridor serves as a gateway to and from international markets and the opening of the two border posts 24 hours a day is a further development from the latest initiative by both governments to allow the use of identification documents for travel between the two countries.
Speaking at the official all-hours opening of the two border posts on Saturday, Serame said imports valued at 15 billion pula (about N$20,4 billion) are processed annually at the Mamuno border post, while 8 800 lorries cross the border there every month.
“Based on these statistics, Mamuno/Trans-Kalahari border posts are critical to facilitation of timely importation of raw materials and machinery necessary to stimulate growth of industries in the economies of our two countries,” Serame said.
