Africa-Press – Namibia. IT IS imperative that local authority organizations like the Namibia Association of Local Authorities (NALAO) and their elected counterparts in the Namibia Association of Local Authorities (ALAN) work together for the benefit of the citizenry.

The exhortation came from Erastus Uutoni, the Minister of Urban and Rural Development when he addressed NALAO’s 20th Annual General Meeting in Tsumeb on Wednesday.

Uutoni stressed the need to enhance the capacity of members to ensure that demands and concerns are brought to the attention of the government.

“You must continue to exercise strategic leadership in the provision of services and serve as a forum for learning and exchanging best practices,” he said.

He implored officials and politicians to work together in order to make improvements to the overall organizational performance of local authorities within the context of good governance.

Uutoni further said that effective political and administrative leadership should be shown as an example of good governance that exhibits institutional stability; effective council and oversight mechanisms; consistent capital project budget expenditures; constant unqualified audit results, and sound financial management.
