Africa-Press – Namibia. THE 8th edition of the RealGood Chicken Smallpark Braai Fest Competition starts in Ondangwa tomorrow. The competition is hosted for the promotion of entrepreneurship and to motivate upcoming kapana vendors.
Smallpark manager Amena Munyika said the competition was first hosted in 2017, to create a platform where upcoming entrepreneurs and kapana vendors can register a stall for as little as N$400, then braai, sell and stand a chance to win different prizes.
Even if they don’t win, they still get to pocket from sales as the event is fully packed and strategically located. Munyika indicated that everybody is allowed to enter for free.
“The RealGood Chicken Smallpark Braai Competition became popular in late 2020 when RealGood Chicken (Namib Mills) came on board as a monthly sponsor and declared it a monthly event,” he said.
RealGood Chicken sponsors N$6,000 in cash prizes for winners and about N$4,000 in chicken products that registered vendors get for free, as well as marketing and other logistics involved.
Munyika indicated that they are currently in need of more sponsors to come on board to make the project an even bigger success. Smallpark intends to expand the event further and make it part of entrepreneurship programmes that form part of the current official curriculums in schools.
“We would like to engage more stakeholders in the private sector, as well as the Ministry Of Education to partake and support,” he said. He stated that schools at different levels can partake and challenge each other per region.
Munyika said corporate and other groups can also partake and compete, with the main aim of promoting entrepreneurship and generating income, thereby motivating the nation at all levels and fighting poverty and unemployment in the process.
