Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIA’S Olympic silver medallist Christine Mboma was named Sports Woman, Junior Sports Woman and Sports Star of the 17th edition of the Namibia Annual Sports Awards (NASA) ceremony held in Windhoek on Saturday.
Mboma beat fellow sprinter Beatrice Masilingi and marathon runner Helalia Johannes in the Sports Woman and Sports Star categories. Mboma and Masilingi’s coach, Henk Botha, was named Coach of the Year, beating Paralympic coach Letu Hamhola and rowing specialist Grant Douglas.
The Junior Sportsman of the Year award went to sprinter Magano Naseb. In the disability categories, the Sportsman of the Year award went to Johannes Nambala, while Lahja Ishitile scooped the Sportswoman of the Year prize. Bradley Murere and Lahja Iipinge were awarded the junior titles in the same categories.
The Namibia Hockey Union (NHU) also won big when they bagged the Development Programme of the Year Award. In other categories, Cricket Namibia was named Federation of the Year, while Namibia football superstar Peter Shalulile was named Professional Shining Star in the Diaspora.
Delano Müller retained his Community Inspirational Award of the Year. Female football referee Twanyanyukwa Antsino was named Best Referee of the Year.
Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to John Lifasi Njubei, Charles Nyambe, Beata Naigambo and Harry “The Terminator” Simon. Pomwene Shaduka walked away with the People’s Choice Sports Star of the year award.
