Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Ohangwena Regional Resettlement Committee has received a total of 166 applications during the 2022/23 financial year.

During his State of the Region Address (SORA), Ohangwena governor Walde Ndevashiya said that the committee considered some of the received applications to select and recommend suitable candidates to the Minister through the Land Reform Advisory Commission.

However, there were no allocations of resettlement farms through the Ohangwena RRC for the 2022/2023 financial year.

Furthermore, Ndevashiya mentioned that the region continues to witness a significant number of Customary Land Rights registrations.

In the period under review, a total of 320 Customary Land rights, 7 leasehold rights, and 21 occupational land rights were registered.

“A total of 20 land-related disputes were presented to the Customary Land Board during the review period,” he said.

He further added that 14 disputes were resolved, and six were referred to the Traditional Authorities for further investigation.

Additionally, five appeals were received, one appeal was resolved, and four are still awaiting adjudication.

Ndevashiya also mentioned that five illegal fences were voluntarily removed, and the board removed one fence.
