Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Ohangwena Athletics Club has been selected to participate in the second edition of the upcoming Pupkewitz Open Championship, but for them to make it a reality the club is calling on the public to assist with financial support.

The championship is set for 20 to 23 December at the Vineta Stadium in Swakopmund. The other participants selected to compete are Kakadhinwa Athletics Club, Nampol AC, Odibo AC and Okongo AC.

The region will this time send 60 athletes from Ohangwena, Kakadhinwa and Odibo, an increase from the 33 athletes who participated in the championship in August this year.

The Ohangwena Athletics Club then won 39 medals and promised to return with more this time around. “We will be represented by one person per item so that we are able to cover all sport codes,” the club’s spokesperson, Teofelus Moseshe, said.

He said their target is to ensure that some of the children qualify for the World Youth Games held in Senegal in 2023, and that some of the athletes make it to the Olympics Games in 2024 to be hosted in France.

Moses said with the team participating in the next round of the Pupkewitz championship, they more than ever need assistance to cater for transport, food and accommodation.

“We are humbly requesting any samaritan to help with any donations to make sure these lads can participate,” he noted. Those willing to assist can contact the organiser on 081 234 5300.
