Africa-Press – Namibia. Namibia’s leading boxing stable, the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy yesterday launched the Together As One Part 5 fight night, set for next month in Walvis Bay.
The event, at the Kuisebmond Hall on 4 December, will be headlined by Matheus Heita, who will take on Zimbabwe’s Tinashe Mwadziwana in a WBO Pan African super bantamweight 12 rounder.
The bout will be supported by Sebastianus Natanael who will exchange leather with Steven ‘Cake’ Bagwasi of Botswana in an international featherweight 10 rounder. Another title to be competed for on the night will be a super middleweight international six rounder, which will see Max Ipinge and Tinashe Zihove go toe-to-toe.
Speaking on the sidelines of the official launch of the boxing bonanza, renowned promoter Nestor Tobias said that they decided to take the event to the coastal town due to the rich history of boxers who hails from there. He added that this would also be a perfect opportunity for the boxers from the town to showcase their talent on a bigger stage.
“With no doubt, we know the history the town has when it comes to boxing. Our first world title comes from there and a lot of talent comes from there, including Heita who will headline the event. So it will be great for these young prospects to showcase their talents in their hometown.
“Our programme is for talent development, that’s why we give them the opportunity to fight. Also looking at our previous events, we had a bunch of young fighters. We can not rely on old guys, that’s why we have to give the youth the opportunity as well,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, Walvis Bay mayor Trevino Forbes said the opportunity for the town to host the event is enormous, given the amount of talent that could be discovered at this event. He added that this would as well be good for business due to the revenue that will be generated during the event.
He, furthermore, asked Walvis Bay residents to fully support the initiative. “It has been a while since we had an event of this magnitude. We know we can also host such events. We are looking forward to hosting this event.
“This will be a great opportunity for boxers coming from the town to showcase their talent in their home town. It will benefit the town and local business people that can come out in numbers and sell their products to make some cash.
“I urge the residents of Walvis Bay to come out in numbers to support this initiative,” he said.
