Africa-Press – Namibia. THE University of Namibia (Unam) and Cardiff University in Wales are collecting several communities’ creative perspectives on Covid-19.

The initiative is titled ‘Covid-19 Community Perspectives in Stitches’, and is a collection of artworks by community artists on the raw impact of Covid-19.

During the recent Unam Cares National Covid-19 awareness roadshow, Unam vice chancellor Kenneth Matengu said the arts develop communication means, allowing individuals to understand and experience messages beyond words.

“The arts have been used as a manner of communicating throughout history, and this exhibition emulates the beauty of it,” he said.

Minister of health and social services Kalumbi Shangula said art designed by the community represents how they feel about the pandemic and vaccination.

“We are very grateful to them and the team for presenting us with this lovely show,” Shangula said. He thanked Unam, Cardiff University, the Welsh government, and traditional artists for embarking on the project.

The executive dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, Judith Hall, said language is essential in visual arts, and it’s the start of something innovative, involving different means of communication in communities.

The exhibition will be open to the public at Unam’s library foyer until 30 November, and will later travel to other regions. The project is led by Shangula, supported by Matengu.
