Ondangwa hosts Christmas party for elders

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Ondangwa Town Council held a Christmas party for over 150 elders within the town’s boundaries to mark the year-end.

This is an increase of more than 50 elders hosted last year by the Council.

Oshana governor Elia Irimari said that Ondangwa is fast developing, and the town’s development is attributed to the elders that made way for development when it comes.

According to Irimari, the youth need mental assistance because of the elders they are celebrating today as an indication that the moral and teaching passed down from one generation to another is still needed in society.

“This is a chance for our elders to reconnect with others and pass on the teaching to the youth to ensure that our children don’t lose their ways,” he said.

He added that the elders are the hope of the youth, as the wisdom passed on by any elder can lead to a great nation.

Meanwhile, Town Mayor Paavo Amwele indicated that elders are the backbone of any town and with them, everything is possible.

“Whatever we do is because of each and every elder that is living in Ondangwa,” he said, adding that he was pleased to see them all in the gathering.

Further, Amwele said many of the town councils face challenges, but in Ondangwa, there is peace due to the elders that are still alive as they continue to guide the youth.

Hence, Amwele indicated that this is to appreciate the elders for keeping the light of the town brighter every time. He stressed that this was not done per selection of any person but might omit some by mistake.

The food items were given by residents of the town, the business community, and the Council itself.
