Africa-Press – Namibia. YOUTH leaders from South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC) and Swapo met on Friday in an effort to broaden their understanding of liberation history and contemporary African politics.

The ANC’s youth leaders were received by Swapo executive director Austin Samupwa at the party’s headquarters on Friday. This was revealed in a statement issued by Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) spokesperson Mathew Taapopi yesterday.

An ANC delegation, led by Mkhari Headman, is currently undertaking a regional tour in Namibia. The ANC Youth League previously undertook tours in Zambia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Angola, and Swaziland.

“Theirs is to visit former liberation movements, now fashioned as modern governing parties, with the aim to broaden their understanding of liberation history and contemporary African politics through social engagements with Swapo comrades,” Taapopi said in the statement.

Samupwa emphasised the importance of continued formal and informal interaction and engagement among Swapo and ANC comrades. He said it is essential to sustain the long-held mutual working relationship between the two parties.

Sapumwa said revolutionary parties are still close, including the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola, Chama cha Mapinduzi in Tanzania, the Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front, and Frelimo in Mozambique.

“It is only last year we did not meet because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but … the six parties have built a school in Tanzania,” he said.
