Africa-Press – Namibia. Namibia national U/20 rugby team will be hoping to start their 2024 Barthes Cup on high note when they square it off against Kenya in the opening match.
The U/20 are currently in Zimbabwe where they will compete in the youth tournament starting today. Namibia will face Kenya in their first match today, which will commence at 14h00.
They will then play against host nations in tomorrow’s tie and their second match before concluding their last match on Friday against Tunisia in another exciting match that rugby fans can look forward too.
The tournament will run from today until 27 March, at Old Georgian Sport Club in Harare, Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe are the defending champions, with hope to retain the title this season as so much is at stake. The winner for this year’s event will join Uruguay, Netherlands, United States of America or Canada in Pool B for the World Rugby U/20 trophy set in Edinburg, Scotland.
The U/20 Barthés Trophy is an annual rugby union competition that features national U/20 teams from Africa, organised by Rugby Africa. The tournament began in 2007 with Uganda as the host, which saw Namibia winning the title. The tournament champion qualifies to the following year’s World Rugby U/20 Trophy organised by World Rugby. Namibia has won this competition twice, 2017 and 2018.
