Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIA has recorded 130 new coronavirus infections, 17 recoveries and no virus-related deaths on Saturday.

This was revealed by minister of health and social services Kalumbi Shangula. “This is bad news. The increase in the number of new infections follows after we have relaxed some of the public health measures in light of the decreasing number of new infections,” Shangula said.

The recovery rate in Namibia stands at 96,8%. Shangula said 18 people are currently hospitalised with Covid-19, with one in an intensive care unit. The 130 new cases include 13 students, 11 healthcare workers, six pupils from different schools, and two teachers.

“Some 11 cases have received one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, and 26 cases are fully vaccinated,” he said.

Namibia’s current Covid-19 figures are: Confirmed cases: 129 638 Recoveries: 125 523 Active cases: 530 Deaths: 3 573 Fully vaccinated: 317 132 “I urge those who have not been vaccinated yet to get vaccinated.

“Our dedicated healthcare workers should only manage health conditions that cannot be prevented.

“We want them to get a good rest during this festive season,” Shangula said.
