Vice President urges strategic actions to ensure Namibians benefit from country’s energy developments

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Vice President, Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, emphasised Lüderitz’s potential as Namibia’s energy hub but stressed the need for strategic actions to ensure that Namibians benefit from these opportunities.

“The harbour town of Lüderitz holds the potential of a promising economy for future Namibia, and this town is now poised to be Namibia’s energy capital. In other words, the energy transition in our country, on our continent, and in the world will have roots here in Lüderitz. And in the process, thousands of jobs are expected to be created in the next ten years, and the town’s population will increase,” she said.

The Vice President made these remarks at the official opening of the Lüderitz Crayfish Festival, where she explained that, while Lüderitz has a bright future, strategic planning and action are required to maximise benefits for the nation.

“We must really be smart. We must make sure that what Africa has experienced over the years, when Africa’s resources were the basis of development in the North, should come to an end,” she said.

She stressed that it is the collective responsibility of Namibians and Africans to safeguard their resources for local development.

“No one can hand over the power just like that; the dominance just like that. But we must be very strategic to make sure that we become the beneficiaries of our natural resources,” Vice President Nandi-Ndaitwah added.
