Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, announced that preparations for the 8th National ICT Summit are in full swing, with the event scheduled to take place in September in Windhoek.
The minister made this announcement at the 8th National ICT Summit Minister’s Breakfast, which aimed to present prospective sponsors with details about the sponsorship packages for the upcoming summit.
Theofelus revealed that the 8th National ICT Summit will be held from 9 to 11 September in Windhoek. She explained that the summit aims to present unique opportunities for interactions between policymakers, information and communications technology (ICT) experts, academics, entrepreneurs, and ICT innovators to reflect and share knowledge on advancements and trends in the ICT sector.
The event will be held under the theme “Building resilience to ‘adapt or die’ in the era of digital transformation & Artificial Intelligence (AI)”. Reflecting on the theme, Theofelus emphasized that adaptation is now a necessity, demanding a proactive, strategic approach to empower citizens, businesses, and government institutions to embrace the digital revolution and leverage its possibilities for their benefit.
“The emergence of digital transformation and AI presents us with numerous opportunities. It has the potential to revolutionise industries, enhance efficiencies, and improve the lives of our citizens. However, it also brings along its fair share of challenges and risks,” Theofelus said.
To understand and address these challenges, she urged stakeholders to prepare topics and concrete solutions to be discussed at the upcoming summit.
“The rapid pace of technological advancement demands swift adaptability from organisations and individuals alike. Failing to adapt means falling behind, potentially leading to irrelevance or even extinction. Therefore, I am calling on both private and government institutions to come on board and play a significant role at this exceptional national event,” Theofelus added.
