Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Rehoboth Town Council (RTC) honoured Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, the first female Governor of Hardap Region and former Education Minister, with a memorial service and a hero’s send-off this past week in Rehoboth. The RTC Public Relations Office organized the memorial service to pay tribute to the former Parliamentarian and pioneering leader of the Hardap Region.
During the service, Hanse-Himarwa was described as a straightforward, ambitious, and very decisive leader. She was lauded as a true daughter of the soil, a gallant fighter with the warrior spirit of the former Nama Captain Hendrick Witbooi, the pride of the Hardap Region and the South, and a woman who worked tirelessly for the betterment of not only Hardap but also the entire Namibian nation.
Rev. Severius Madjiedt urged mourners, “Rehoboth and Hardap Region constituents should draw strength and comfort from the lessons taught and the legacy left by the daughter of our soil. Let’s always remember her.”
On Wednesday, 24 July 2024, a procession was held with the remains of the late former Minister through the streets of Rehoboth. This allowed the public to pay their last respects along established routes, which were lined with huge crowds of mourners, well-wishers, and students from Rehoboth High School, Dr. Lemmer High School, Acacia Primary School, and Ruimte Primary School.
Rehoboth Town Councillors Cllr. Jacky lKhariseb, Cllr. Lelanie Uiras, and RTC PRO Ms. Desire Pieters presented the family of the late former Minister with a wreath during the procession on behalf of the Council and the town of Rehoboth.
The official funeral will take place on 27 July 2024 at her home in Mariental.
