Africa-Press – Namibia. BRANDS such as Tassenberg, Savanna, Hunters Dry, and Hunters Gold will now be bottled, filled, and packaged in Namibia instead of South Africa.
This was announced by President Nangolo Mbumba, who explained that this will reduce Namibia’s reliance on imports and create more opportunities for local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He made these remarks at the Official Opening of the Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) New Wine Packaging Facility.
“Today’s occasion marks the conclusion of the N$394 million investment, which includes the construction of a new packaging hall, installation of a state-of-the-art wine packaging line, and warehouse expansion. This investment reflects NBL’s commitment to strengthening local manufacturing capacity, creating jobs, and earning Namibia more foreign currency through exports,” the president said.
He added that the commissioning of the NBL new wine packaging line is a testament to the successful partnership between the private sector and the public sector, which provides a conducive business environment for investment. The president revealed that more than 14 local companies were involved in the construction of the venture.
“The inclusion of Namibian-owned businesses is a testament to NBL’s commitment to playing its rightful role in the growth of our economy,” President Mbumba said.
The president highlighted that NBL currently supports a diverse workforce of 953 individuals, with half of the management team being women.
“I understand that the company also works closely with micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and has invested N$25 million in their development. Furthermore, the company has been a significant driver of our economy, contributing a total of N$3 billion in taxes, customs, and excise duties over the past three years,” the president revealed.
