Africa-Press – Namibia. Ohangwena governor Sebastian Ndeitunga has highlighted a lack of drinking water and a poor road network as two critical issues in the region.
He said this in his state of the region address at Eenhana on Wednesday.
Ndeitunga said the region’s abudant underground water resource, Acquifer 2, has the potential to provide water to the region’s residents and beyond, however, progress in harnessing this water has been painfully slow.
“With only seven boreholes currently tapping Acquifer 2, expedited to resolve the pressing water scarcity in the region . . .
“We further have 45 boreholes, seven deep and 38 shallow, drilled at Omundaungilo, Epembe, Okongo and Oshikunde – all at a cost of N$31,6 million,” Ndeitunga said.
He said another borehole has been rehabilitated at Oshikunde at a cost of N$90 000.
