Africa-Press – Namibia. MN CAPITAL Group will host a Namibia Institutional Investors Forum conference for captains of industry in Swakopmund on 10 and 11 March next year.

The meeting will bring together policy makers, asset owners, fund and asset managers, thought leaders, investment consultants, legal practitioners, among others, to engage on various investment issues.

“The meeting will be held under the theme ‘Harnessing alternative investment to drive economic recovery’,” said in a statement last week.

“Focus on alternative investments has never been more relevant as the investment community continues to solidify their commitment to curb key global challenges highlighted in the United Nations sustainable development goals (SDGs) as well as the Harambee Prosperity Plan II,” said the statement.

MN Capital Group chief executive Michael Ndinisa said: “Climate change and, most recently, the Covid-19 pandemic have continued to shift the scale in institutional investors’ traditional approach to investment.”

He said investors are gravitating towards sustainable investing and there is no better timing than to enter the new year with more creativity to harness what is already in existence.

Martin Inkumbi, the chief executive officer of the Development Bank of Namibia, said Namibian institutional investors can play a pivotal role in unlocking funds for infrastructure projects including railways, renewable energy, housing and agriculture and propel Namibia’s economy to a new level.

“Institutional capital can also be deployed in equity and quasi equity to catalyse and take especially manufacturing enterprises from brown fields to mature enterprises,” Inkumbi added.

The investment intervention will save Namibian enterprises from collapse during the current depressed economic cycle, preserving current and future employment and sustaining economic growth, Inkumbi added.

James Mnyupe, the presidential advisor on economic issues and Namibia’s green hydrogen commissioner, welcomed the conference and urged private sector and corporate sectors to join the discussion at hand.

“There is significant interest from the global capital markets for assets that meaningfully answer the call for profitable investments which respond to SDGs and the sustainable decarbonisation of industrial infrastructure,” he said.

Conference participants will be able to engage policy makers and industry regulators in discussing Namibia-specific reforms and regulatory frameworks, market trends and the current environment.

“They will also learn of best industry practices, network with senior decision makers and key investment professionals and solidify existing and new business relations and increase brand visibility,” said Mnyupe.
