Africa-Press – Namibia. NAMIBIAN President, dr. Hage Geingob, in one of the most touching Christmas messages delivered on his behalf by the equally graceful Vice-president, dr. Nangolo Mbumba, called Namibians to stay true to kindness, respect and grace towards strangers and the less privileged.

The Geingob message of hope and faith in the Namibian spirit comes in a turbulent world where Namibia’s light is shining brighter due to its management of health, maintaining of peace and optimism for economic growth in 2022 through energy initiatives and expectations of good rains in the first quarter.

“For many people the world over, this time of year is a time for finding joy in celebrating what the birth of Christ means to mankind.

It is a time that brings friends, neighbours and family members together.

Christmas is a time of spiritual reflection on the important foundations of the Christian faith. It is when Christians celebrate God’s love for the world through the birth of Christ.

The true meaning of Christmas is to give one’s very self and to think of others and how to bring the greatest happiness to them.

It is a selfless time, where we forgive one another, take stock of what is really important and strive to become better versions of ourselves.

Christmas was traditionally a Christian festival remembering and celebrating the birth of our Saviour, but that changed in the early 20th century, where it evolved to be observed by Christians and non-Christians alike.

Therefore, as a secular state, here in Namibia Christmas is and should be celebrated by all people of goodwill.

By goodwill, I am referring to good Samaritans, who will, this Christmas and going forward, perform acts of kindness towards strangers.

I am particularly requesting that we look closely at vulnerable people from marginalized communities, persons with disabilities, and children that still need to study during the festive season to rewrite their examination.

I am talking about the old, the veterans, widows and widowers, orphans and anyone that you may come across facing or who have faced insurmountable challenges.

I ask that we support these individuals be it with a smile, a word of encouragement, food, clothing, shelter or simply showing them grace and recognition.

With the surging numbers of Covid-19 cases, I urge all Namibians to do so with a sense of responsibility towards their loved ones and the nation at large.

John Newton once said, “Through many dangers, toils and snares we have already come, it is Grace that brought us safe thus far and it is Grace that will lead us home”.

To our men and women in uniform (the frontline workers, such as nurses, doctors, pharmacists) their respective families and every Namibian who has risen to the challenges brought by the Pandemic in 2020 and 2021, we voice our debt of gratitude and our thoughts are with you all knowing most of you will be on duty.

To those in hospital, we wish them a speedy and complete recovery.

To those who have lost loved ones, our prayers are with them.

With courage and resilience, we as a nation in the Land of the Brave will overcome.

So from my family to yours, we hope your holiday season is full of compassion, joy, peace, love and happiness.
