Africa-Press – Namibia. A MEMORIAL service for the late Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu is planned for Wednesday at St Michael’s Anglican parish in Katutura at 17h00.
Namibian diocese bishop Luke Pato says the service is open to all, including people and leaders of other churches and religions.
“That is who Tutu was. He was an ecumenical person as well as a religious leader in the true sense of the word,” he says.
Pato calls on other Anglican clergies across the country to also host memorial services.
The archbishop will be laid to rest in Cape Town on Saturday, the Desmond and Leah Tutu Foundation has announced.
Tutu’s remains will lie in state on Friday in the St George’s Cathedral in Cape Town ahead of his funeral.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate, who helped end apartheid in South Africa, died on Sunday at the age of 90.
