Africa-Press – Namibia. WENDELL Rudath and Peter Shalulile will be looking to fly the Namibian flag high in the CAF African Champions League group phase.

Shalulile’s Mamelodi Sundowns were on Tuesday drawn to face holders Al Ahly in group A, along with Sudanese clubs Al Hilal Omdurman and Al Merrikh. While he has been in terrific form in the South African Premiership with 13 strikes in 19 matches, Shalulile only has one goal in the Champions League so far this season.

Al Ahly have won the last two Champions League titles under former Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane. Rudath and his fellow Jwaneng Galaxy upstarts will take on Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia), Étoile du Sahel (Tunisia), CR Belouizdad (Algeria) in group C.

The Botswana champions find themselves among Africa’s elite following their impressive performances in the preliminary stages of the competition. The debutants reached the group phase after doing the unimaginable in overturning a 2-0 home loss with an unforgettable 3-1 thumping of East African giants, Simba SC in Dar es Salaam, which subsequently knocked out last season’s quarter-finalists.

Rudath was the hero of the second leg as he netted an impressive double to guarantee progression to the top 16. Cosafa’s other representatives are AmaZulu from South Africa, who are in their debut campaign in the competition, and Angolan clubs Sagrada Esperança and Petro Atletico.

AmaZulu are drawn with reigning Confederation Cup champions Raja Casablanca of Morocco, Guinea’s Horoya and ES Sétif of Algeria in group B. Wydad Athletic (Morocco), Zamalek (Egypt), Petro Atletico and Sagrada Esperança make up group D.

Meanwhile, Deon Hotto and Orlando Pirates will be playing JS Kabylie of Algeria or Royal Leopard of eSwatini, JS Saoura of Algeria, and Al Ittihad of Libya in the CAF Confederation Cup group phase.

In group A, Pyramids FC of Egypt, CS Sfaxien of Tunisia, Zanaco of Zambia, and Ahli Tripoli of Libya will battle it out for a place in the quarter-finals.

Group C has former CAF Champions League champions and DR Congo giants Tout Puissant Mazembe, Coton Sport of Cameroon, Al Masry of Egypt, and AS Otoho d’Oyo of Congo (Brazaville).

Tanzanian giants Simba SC are in group D alongside RS Berkane of Algeria, ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast, and US Gendarmerie of Niger.
