Cabinet approves visa-free entry to Chinese nationals

Africa-Press – Namibia. The Namibian Cabinet has approved visa-free entry for all Chinese nationals entering the country.

This was announced on Thursday afternoon by deputy minister of information and communication technology Modestus Amutse.

“Cabinet authorised the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security to enter into a mutual exemption from visa requirements between Namibia and China for holders of diplomatic, official [and] service passports,” Amutse said.

The Namibian reported in 2023 that the bilateral visa exemption deal is believed to have been conceived in March that year when a three-person delegation from the Namibian government travelled to Beijing on a trip allegedly sponsored by the Chinese government.

The negotiations between the countries were allegedly kept secret by top officials in the immigration ministry.
