Africa-Press – Namibia. The Opuwo Town Council has partnered the National Housing Enterprise (NHE) to build affordable houses for low-to-middle-income-earners.
This is aimed at improving housing availability and living conditions in the town.
The official signing of the agreement between the two entities took place last week at Ondangwa in the Oshana region.
NHE chief executive officer Gisbertus Mukulu said the government will make funds available for NHE to construct houses for ultra-middle to low-income-earners.
“This is a gift from the government, who will subsidise the programme,” Mukulu said.
He emphasised that NHE houses are built with affordability in mind, making them accessible to middle- and low-income earners.
He added that the houses are built with only the basics so that they can be affordable.
“The basic structure is N$90 000. A one-bedroom house costs approximately N$120 000 while a three-bedroom house is priced between N$220 000 and N$250 000,” he said.
He urged the Opuwo Town Council to provide subsidised land so that house construction can start without delay.
The chief executive officer of Opuwo town, Matjandara Katurota expressed satisfaction with the housing partnership.
Katurota said Opuwo is eager to collaborate with NHE as there is an urgent need for more housing units in Opuwo, where a significant number of low-to middle-income-earners need them.
