Africa-Press – Namibia. The iconic Mole in Swakopmund is poised for significant enhancements with the official handover of the construction site for the Mole cubicles upgrade project recently.
Municipality spokesperson Linda Mupupa said that an amount of N$4.8 million has been invested in the project, which is slated for completion by October 2025.
According to Mupupa, the project will introduce a transformative element to the Mole with the construction of enclosed cubicles. These new structures will serve as dedicated storage facilities for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), providing them with secure spaces to showcase their unique arts and crafts.
“This development is expected to significantly support local entrepreneurship and enhance the vibrant atmosphere of the area,” she said.
She added that a charming wooden lighthouse tower will be built, housing four toilets, a security services room, and a sea rescue room, ensuring safety and convenience for all.
Furthermore, Mupupa indicated that, in order to regulate swimmers and boating activities, the tower will also be equipped with boom facilities to effectively monitor the launching area.
She stressed that this upgrade promises not only to support local entrepreneurs but also to enhance safety and visitor enjoyment at one of Swakopmund’s most popular spots.
