Africa-Press – Namibia. Two men lost their lives on Thursday morning in an accident involving four lorries near Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa region.

Regional police commander commissioner Philip Hidengwa told Nampa at the accident scene that preliminary investigations indicate that a truck with an Outapi number plate was heading south when it sideswiped one of three trucks in a convoy to the B2Gold mine.

“The first truck’s mirror and right rear tyre were damaged. The truck from Outapi further veered into the right lane and collided head-on with a second truck. The impact was so severe that both trucks’ wrecks were scattered onto the road,” Hidengwa said.

The third lorry slightly bumped into the wrecks of the two trucks, as the driver, fortunately, avoided ploughing into them, Hidengwa said.

The three lorries that were being driven in a convoy from the coast were transporting containers of chemicals used for mining activities at the B2Gold mine.

The impact of the head-on collision with the second truck killed two male occupants in the Outapi-registered lorry.

One of the drivers of the B2Gold trucks, a 35-year-old man, sustained several fractures and was taken to Otjiwarongo State Hospital in a critical condition, Hidengwa said.
