Africa-Press – Namibia. Football agent Olsen Kahiriri said Elmo Kambindu’s move to the South African Premier Division will open doors for more Namibian players. Kambindu, who is heading to Sekhukhune United, became the latest Namibian player to sign for a club in South Africa’s DStv Premiership, joining the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns’ forward Peter Shalulile, Deon Hotto of Orlando Pirates and Ananias Gebhardt of Baroka United.

According to Kahiriri, the duration of the deal is two and half years, which will see the lanky striker at the club until the 2024 season. “The duration of the deal is two years and a half, subject to renewal, according to his performance at the club. It will all be in his power to elongate his stay,” he said.

The agent noted that penning a contract in one of the best leagues on the continent is very exciting, given the fact that his previous contract with the Mozambican club (Costa do Sol) had ended. He added that the move will as well benefit the national team.

“It’s exciting for the player. He is happy to have signed for a club in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) where he will be hoping to make a mark with his national team compatriots, such as Shalulile, Hotto and Vries. This move will as well be of great benefit to the national team.”

Kahiriri noted that the move has now proven that teams in the PSL are now paying attention to Namibia. “We believe this will also contribute to more PSL clubs to scout more talent in Namibia.”

Kambindu, who goes by the nickname ‘Wazza’ was instrumental in Namibia’s victory over Togo in September last year during their 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, which saw him scoring the only goal of the match.

He has played for the national team 20 times, scoring eight goals. The DStv Premiership is set to only return in February due to the Africa Cup of Nations that will be played in Cameroon during the month of January.
