Africa-PressNamibia. Namibia’s leading diamond marketing and sales company NAMDIA recently threw its weight behind six athletes who form part of Team Namibia at the World Athletics U/20 Championships, which start today in Nairobi, Kenya.

NAMDIA, through its foundation, sponsored a whopping N$ 258 728 towards Athletics Namibia for the participation of the team in the U/20 Championships.

The six athletes are Beatrice Masilingi 100m; 200m; 4x100m relay, Christine Mboma 200m; 4x100m relay; Elvis Gaseb 100m; Ndawana Haitembu 4x100m relay; Carien Oosthuizen 4x100m relay and Nandi Vass 4x100m relay.

They will be accompanied by team leader Meriam Minin, coach Henk Botha and Covid-19 liaison officer Normin Lucas.

“Sports have always been a universal unifier that transverses gender, ethnicity, creed and colour. More than ever, this immeasurable unifier is direly needed as the nation battles the Covid-19 pandemic,” said NAMDIA chief executive officer Kennedy Hamutenya.

“At the NAMDIA Foundation, we believe sports not only unites a nation, but keeps our youth off the streets, instills discipline and provides them with a purpose.”

He stated that it is with this in mind that the foundation strongly felt the need to have sports as one of its focus pillars. They have thus far given a sponsorship towards the Brave Warriors at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations; sponsorship towards the Sportswoman of the Year Award at the Namibian Annual Sports Awards; broadcasting of the Rugby World Cup by NBC in 2019; sponsorship towards the national women’s hockey team for the Tokyo 2020 qualifiers; and sponsorship towards Team Namibia under the banner of the Namibia National Olympic Committee for their participation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Hamutenya said as the corporate social responsibility vehicle of NAMDIA, the NAMDIA Foundation remains dedicated to its convictions and addressing Namibia’s social and economic ills through the fields of education, health and sports.

“We proudly stand behind our athletes, and wish them great success and an even greater future in sports.”
