Africa-Press – Namibia. CORRUPTION has no place in our institutions and in our motherland, but it can only be properly addressed if the victims are ready to talk and give evidence, said President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Saturday.

In what appears to be a totally new strategy for fighting the scourge of corruption in Namibia, President Nandi-Ndaitwah urged traditional leaders and the general public to become active participants in the 8th Administration’s “Zero Tolerance for Corruption” crusade.

She said that citizens, investors, and visitors alike must not be subjected to additional payments for services rendered by public servants or any other service providers in this country.

The President pointed out that all members of the Cabinet are under a clear directive to listen to the people and to help them with honesty and in a timely manner.

“We have all taken an oath to defend and protect the Constitution, and the laws of the Republic of Namibia,” she said.

Speaking at the 2025 Omaongo Cultural Festival in the Ohangwena Region, the President also appreciated the good rains received this year, leading to a good harvest and good grazing for livestock across the country.

“However,” she said, “we acknowledge that the heavy rainfall has also caused flooding, affecting some of our citizens and their livelihoods. Homes, houses, and some crop fields have been submerged and harvests lost. As we speak, some of our fellow citizens are still in relocation centres in this part of the country.”

She applauded and appreciated the good behaviour as well as the cooperation of those affected citizens with the authorities who are working tirelessly to provide them with assistance of all kinds.

She appealed to all the traditional authorities, church leaders, and all other community leaders to not allow citizens to settle or construct houses and homes in flood-prone areas and to find better places for those settled in waterways to prevent similar tragedies from reoccurring in the future.
