Africa-Press – Namibia. THE repatriation of more than 4 000 Angolan guests including men, women and children that have been living in Namibia for the past 11 months will be completed this week. Namibia is the first country on the African continent to refer to and accordingly treat refugees as guests.

On Tuesday, 1 792 Angolans were moved from Etunda near Ruacana to a shelter at Calueque in Angola. The shelter is about 20 kilometres from the Omahenene village on the border between the two countries.

Omusati governor Erginus Endjala said the repatriation creates opportunities for the Angolans to receive proper attention and reintegrate with their loved ones back home.

“We know the process is not going to be easy, but through the cooperation between the two governments we will overcome those challenges,” he said. Endjala said controlling the movements of Angolans has been challenging because of the huge influx of nationals from the neighbouring country.

Endjala said to have proper control of citizens entering both countries, they need to open up the border completely or partiality to facilitate movements. He also promised to visit the Angolans once back in their country.
