Africa-Press – Namibia. The Kunene deputy director of education, Alwina !Aebes, has died.

!Aebes died on Friday after a short illness at the Mariental State Hospital. A statement from Kunene governor Marius Sheya, confirmed her death. Sheya said !Aibes’ work ethics and professionalism was unparalleled.

“Her knowledge and expertise in education has always been visible through her work,” reads his statement. The statement further said that her passion was to improve the quality of life for the Namibian child and that of the Kunene region, in particular.

“Her contribution to the development of the Kunene region will be felt for many years and her soft spoken voice and laughter will surely be missed,” it reads.

Chief commercial officer of Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), Umbi Karuaihe-Upi told The Namibian that !Aibes was one of the great founding TV news readers in Damara Nama at the broadcaster.

Karuahe-Upi added: “We are particularly honoured to have had her as one of the very first news anchors when we introduced indigenous news on television. She will be fondly remembered.”

!Aibes leaves behind three daughters and three grandchildren.
