Africa-Press – Namibia. Former //Kharas governor, Aletha Frederick, on Monday officially handed over office to her successor, Gaob Dawid Gertze, in Keetmanshoop.
In her welcoming and leadership transfer statement, Frederick said the ceremony marks a significant tradition and that it is a moment to acknowledge the past and embrace the future in the region. In congratulating Gertze, she said his appointment is a testament to his capabilities, dedication to public service and trust placed in him by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
“I wish you the wisdom to navigate the complexities ahead, strength to overcome challenges and resounding success in your tenure,” she added.
She then emphasised that the expectations placed on a governor are often vast, extending far beyond the formal mandate. The former governor continued: “It is further that of overseeing the implementation of government programmes and projects in his/her respective region.” She added that it is also expected from a governor to be a provider, protector and champion of people’s aspirations.
She then advised those present that, to forge a truly prosperous tomorrow for the //Kharas region, its residents must embrace a unified vision that necessitates a powerful synergy and collaborative spirit that unites all stakeholders. “On this premise, I implore each of us to extend our full support and collaboration to the newly appointed governor through fostering an environment of open communication, mutual respect, and shared purpose,” she said.
With reference to her tenure as governor, she described it as a dynamic experience marked by both obstacles and achievements, reflecting the collective spirit and adaptability of her team. “Therefore, allow me to bow at this juncture to extend my deepest gratitude to all individuals, business owners, corporate entities, and the //Kharas Regional Council for your unwavering support,” she said.
Meanwhile, Gertze, in his remarks, reminded stakeholders that the region’s challenges are common and will require all political formations to make sure they act in communality and cahoots to make sure needed services are taken to the people. “We all have our own political beliefs, but when it comes to the //Kharas region, I believe we should serve everybody,” he emphasised. The politician and traditional leader then advised that they, as the political leadership, should do away with small agendas when people are waiting for services. In his remarks, //Kharas Regional Council management committee chairperson Joseph Isaacs said the day marks a juncture of transition where one should pause, not only to welcome the incoming governor, but equally to salute the outgoing one. He then thanked Frederick on behalf of the regional council and citizens of //Kharas for the remarkable role she played in the region during her tenure.
“//Kharas Regional Council is looking forward to working with you within the ambit of our respective and distinctive mandates, namely, to strengthen governance and deepen development in the region,” he promised.
