ECN to Begin Supplementary Registration August 4

Africa-Press – Namibia. The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) will next week commence with supplementary voter registration for the upcoming regional council and local authority elections.

The elections are slated for 26 November.

The registration period will run from 4 to 19 August in all regions and the public is urged to take part.

To register, one must have proof of one’s identity, be 18 years old, have a birth certificate, driving licence, valid green Namibian passport, or an old Namibian identity document and must be Namibian.

“To qualify for local authority elections one is required to present proof of residence for the last 12 months. This can be a municipal bill, telephone bill, lease agreement or statement under oath by applicant,” the notice reads.

Uniformed personnel are required to provide proof of membership and an affidavit signed by the commanding officer stating their place of residence.

This registration period is also for those who have lost their voter’s cards, those with broken cards, those who wish to change constituencies or have moved to another constituency, as well as those who want to make corrections to names or dates.
