Africa-Press – Namibia. A NUMBER of pupils rewriting their final Grade 11 examinations in the Omusati region are facing disciplinary action for allegedly arriving at examination centres in civilian outfits, and with “funny hairstyles”.

Examinations at some schools could this week not commence on time as school authorities were deciding whether to allow pupils who do not honour examination rules to write their exams. Omusati education director Benny Eiseb yesterday said this has caused chaos at some schools.

“We have commenced with our final year examinations today, however, we were faced with some challenges at some schools. Pupils decided to turn up at examination centres without wearing their school uniforms, while some had funny hairstyles which are not allowed at school.

“They were even refusing to cut their hair in order to be allowed inside the examination centre.

“At some schools, more than 30 pupils were turned away for failing to honour the examination rules. They were later allowed to write their exams. At some schools the pupils could not start their examination on time.

“It is dissapointing,” he said.

He said all the involved pupils were allowed to write their first paper in the morning, but face displinary action and will be issued with warning letters from their respective schools.

“We cannot allow anyone to enter the examination centre without wearing a school uniform or with hanging hair.

“School rules should be respected and adhered to by all. We felt pity for them, and decided to allow them to write in the morning, but afterwards we are going to discipline them,” he said.
