Africa-Press – Namibia. POLICE in the Oshikoto region say three people were injured after a bus and a sedan crashed into a truck along the B1 road on Tuesday morning.
The incident happened at Omutsegonime village in the Oshikoto region. Deputy commissioner of the Oshikoto police Petrus Shigwedha, says the two vehicles hit a truck that was stranded across the road at the time.
The truck was stuck on the road after its driver Petrus Shailemo (44) stopped and attempted to make a U-turn, in order to retrieve his spare wheel which had fallen off the truck.
“Unfortunately, the truck got stuck and the other part of the trailer remained on the road. It had been there, blocking the road, the whole night,” Shigwedha says. Around 04h30, the Silas Ndapuka 24/7 Business Transport bus hit the truck.
The bus driver has been identified as Konis Shaanika (28). He was forced to wait until the rescue team arrived to cut him of the wreckage, although no physical injuries were identified, Shigwedha says.
There were only three occupants in the bus, and none of them sustained any injuries either, says Shigwedha. The driver of the sedan that also hit the truck, was however seriously injured, while his passenger sustained only slight injuries. Both were taken to the Omuthiya District Hospital.
