Africa-Press – Namibia. Spreader Fishing Company has donated information and communication technology (ICT) equipment worth N$150 000 to the Directorate of Education in the Kunene region.

The donation, which includes laptops and projectors, is a boost to three rural schools, which are the beneficiaries of the donation.

Deputy education minister Dino Balloti, who received the donation, highlighted the importance of bridging the digital divide for rural learners.

He described the donation as a “direct investment in the dreams of Namibian learners”.

He said digital access is a vital step towards an inclusive and connected education system.

“I repeat that your contribution today is a direct investment in the dreams of Namibian learners and a step towards a more inclusive, equitable and connected educational landscape,” he said.

Balloti added that the handover is only one part of a bigger picture, a national movement towards digital transformation in all schools.

He made a clarion call to the private sector, development partners, non-governmental organisations and Namibians in the diaspora to follow the example set by Spreader Fishing Company.

“The journey to transform education belongs to all of us. Together, we can ensure that not one child is left behind,” he urged.

Kunene governor Vipuakuje Muharukua encouraged learners to nurture a culture of reading as a gateway to a brighter future.

“If you cannot be exposed to things outside Kunene because you cannot travel, you must bring those things to yourself. The way to do that is through reading,” he said.

He called on teachers and learners to “dream big and bring the world into their classrooms” through books and learning.

Speaking on behalf of Spreader Fishing Company, chairperson Silas Iipumbu said the contribution was more than a corporate social responsibility.

“It is an investment in the minds and dreams of thousands of learners and educators across the country. With this equipment, classrooms will be transformed into hubs of innovation, creativity and digital literacy,” he stated.

School board member Ruvezoruua Katundu expressed gratitude for the donation and urged learners to use the equipment responsibly.

“These things are rare to come by in the land. Use them for your education so that they can serve future generations,” she said.

The donation is expected to enhance teaching and learning in the recipient schools, equipping rural learners with digital tools that are essential for success in today’s technology-driven world.
