Africa-Press – Namibia. Affirmative Repositioning leader Job Amupanda’s notice of questions in Oshindonga sparked debate in parliament on Tuesday, with some questioning his motive.
Amupanda gave prior notice to the National Assembly that he would ask questions in Oshindonga, and party chief whip Vaino Hangula will provide the translation.
Amupanda on Tuesday rose to give his notice of questions in parliament but was met with interjection by Swapo members of parliament.
“The rules are clear: any member can ask questions in their own language,” Amupanda says.
However, works and transport minister Veikko Nekundi interjected the request, citing that it is time-consuming due to the translations.
Deputy minister of defence Charles Mubita questions why Amupanda is doing this. He is of the view that Amupanda wants to bring chaos to the House.
Popular Democratic Movement president McHenry Venaani supports Amupanda, saying that National Assembly speaker Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila ought to have made arrangements.
The speaker has not seen the letter and requested for a break to deal with the matter.
