PDM remains resilient despite resignations – Ngaringombe

Africa-Press – Namibia. Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) secretary general Manuel Ngaringombe has reassured party members and sympathisers that the party remains robust, united and focused despite the recent resignations of some members.

Ngaringombe made these remarks in a statement issued on Monday, addressing concerns about the party’s cohesion following the departure of five PDM members, Charmaine Tjirare, Yvette Aries, Esmerelda !Arbes, Vakamuina Kamutuezu and Shonena Nathaniel.

“The Popular Democratic Movement has noted the recent resignations of a few members from our ranks. While we acknowledge and respect their personal decisions, we wish to assure our members that the party remains strong, united and focused on its mandate of advancing democracy, justice and development for all Namibians,” he says.

Ngaringombe states that resignations are a natural aspect of any democratic organisation, stressing that they do not diminish PDM’s vision or ability to serve the people of Namibia.

“The PDM continues to grow in strength, anchored by thousands of committed members across all regions of our country, and by our shared determination to build a fair, prosperous and inclusive Namibia,” he notes.

No individual resignation will disrupt the party’s momentum as the party prepares for the upcoming elections and continues to represent the voice of the Namibian people in parliament, local authorities and regional councils, he adds.

He further criticises the resignations, claiming that members resigned after losing their jobs, which reflects the ‘politics of the belly.’

“It is, however, very nefarious for some members to resign after losing their jobs. Such actions speak to ‘politics of the belly’ as opposed to real, principled politics rooted in service to the people,” remarks Ngaringombe.

He went on to say PDM was built on ideals of conviction, not convenience, and remains committed to values-driven leadership.

“PDM leadership remains committed to transparency, accountability and collective progress. We thank those who have resigned for their contributions during their time with us and wish them well in their future endeavours.”

He, however, emphasises that their doors remain open should they, at any point, change their minds and wish to return to the movement.
