POLICE in the //Kharas Region have arrested three people in separate incidents after counterfeit currency was allegedly used at a school event in Keetmanshoop and at a bar in Berseba on Friday.
A 17-year-old girl from J.A. Van Nel Secondary School in Keetmanshoop was arrested alongside her 19-year-old boyfriend for possession of fake currency.
According to the weekend crime bulletin, the discovery was made on Friday, 26 September 2025, at Keetmanshoop.
It is alleged that the 17-year-old Namibian female suspect, a learner at J.A. Van Nel Secondary School, tried to buy a portion of chips from other learners who were selling at the school’s entrepreneurship day with counterfeit notes amounting to N$400. It is alleged that the learners who sold the item to the suspect realised that the N$200 note she paid with was fake and reported the matter to their teacher. It is further alleged that when the suspect was questioned about the possession of the fake notes, she revealed that she received the money from her boyfriend and indicated that there was still a bag of such money at their house.
It is further alleged that the house was then searched and fake cash notes of N$50,800 and R21,400 were discovered, totalling N$72,200. The suspects, a 17-year-old Namibian female and a 19-year-old Namibian male, were arrested and are expected to appear before the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 29 September 2025. Police investigations continue.
