Africa-Press – Namibia. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has issued a national call of confidence in Major General Anne-Marie Nainda, urging global support for her candidacy as president of Interpol and positioning Namibia at the forefront of international security leadership.
Speaking at the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Conference last week, President Nandi-Ndaitwah said Namibia is “ready to lead the world” and has nominated Nainda because of her proven professionalism, integrity and experience on the Interpol Executive Committee.
She stressed that this is not a symbolic representation, but a strategic move rooted in ability and merit.
“We have presented to the international community Major General Anne-Marie Nainda, a dear colleague, who is a professional police officer… we are convinced that if the chance is given to Namibia to lead that organisation, we are not going to fail the world,” the President said.
Her endorsement of Nainda comes within a larger message that indicate that women are not just victims of conflict, but powerful agents of peace, negotiation and leadership.
Namibia pioneered the global Women, Peace and Security Agenda and continues to prove its leadership by placing qualified women at the highest decision-making tables.
The President reminded the audience that from the liberation struggle to modern diplomacy, Namibian women have stood “shoulder to shoulder with men” in building peace. Today, that legacy continues through leaders like Nainda, who represents a new era of continental confidence.
Backed by the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Nainda’s candidacy signals Africa’s readiness to influence global policing, fight transnational crime, and promote fairness within international institutions.
Nandi-Ndaitwah warned that peace and security cannot be achieved if women are left out of leadership.
She praised men who open doors for women but insisted that inclusion must be permanent and meaningful.
“When women participate, peace agreements are more durable and communities more resilient,” she said.
The President’s message was clear that Namibia is not campaigning for an individual, but for global transformation.
Through Nainda, Namibia aims to demonstrate that African women can lead the world’s most powerful security institutions with excellence.
As the nation rallies behind Nainda, President Nandi-Ndaitwah called on the international community to recognise Namibia’s track record and trust its leadership. Nainda will be contesting for the Presidency of Interpol next month.
