Katjiuanjo pledges development for Kalahari

Africa-Press – Namibia. Zedekia Borry Katjiuanjo, the Swapo candidate for the Kalahari constituency in the Omaheke region, promised major development for the constituency if he wins the regional council elections slated for November 2025.

The Kalahari constituency has been in the hands of Swapo’s Ignatius Kariseb for the past 15 years. Kariseb is also the current chairperson of the Omaheke Regional Council.

After emerging victorious in the party primaries recently, Katjiuanjo shared with New Era that he is ready to take forward the work and vision that has been built under the strong leadership of outgoing councillor Kariseb and the Swapo government.

These, Katjiuanjo said, include the upgrading of the Buitepos settlement to a town with organised streets, housing, markets and jobs as set by his predecessor.

He said that Drimiopsis and Tsjaka will be declared officially as settlements while Vergenoeg and Blouberg will be developed as growth points during his tenure.

“These developments will bring services closer and create opportunities for youth and women,” Katjiuanjo said.

The Swapo candidate also prioritises the Buitepos-Tallismanus road that will be upgraded to bitumen, adding that the nine-kilometre stretch from the MR91 to the Tsjaka office will also be improved.

“These roads will connect communities, open markets, and create job opportunities during their construction,” he said.

On health and sanitation, he said the Tsjaka clinic will be constructed and that health posts at Drimiopsis and Vergenoeg will be commissioned.

He added that 112 flush toilets are under construction at Drimiopsis, and that will provide dignity and employment to the constituency inhabitants.

Katjiuanjo promised that Nossobville residents will receive their title deeds, securing their homes and empowering families to invest in the future.

As he commits to continue working on the foundation laid by his predecessor, Katjiuanjo said water scarcity will be something of the past in Kalahari as boreholes have been drilled and some will be installed across the constituency.

“I will also revive the Drimiopsis youth garden to create jobs and promote food security. Also, I will continue advocating for resettlement to reduce overcrowded farms and create opportunities for more farmers,” he said.

He further promised that households in Buitepos, Drimiopsis, Tsjaka, Blouberg, Netso and Vasdraai will be electrified, whereas the children’s sanctuary in Drimiopsis will also receive upgraded electricity.

“I will prioritise the MTC tower for Tsjaka, while network upgrades will be rolled out along the Trans-Kalahari and Trans-Caprivi highways.

Katjiuanjo called on the inhabitants to vote for him for continuity, progress, and a shared vision of development under the leadership of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.

“Do not be misled by the opposition or independent candidates. They want to undo the gains we made, but they cannot match Swapo’s proven record,” he said.
