The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) in the Omusati region is urging the public to help provide vehicles for the upcoming Regional and Local Authority Elections scheduled for 26 November 2025.

During a stakeholder engagement session held yesterday, Regional Electoral Officer Elizabeth Shiningayamwe said the commission currently has only 286 registered private vehicles, far fewer than the 689 needed to ensure smooth election operations across the region. This results in a shortage of 403 vehicles for the ECN, prompting a public appeal for help.

“We are calling on members of the public who wish to hire their vehicles from the ECN to take them for assessment at the Omusati Police Regional Headquarters. The assessments started on Monday, 27 October, and will end on Friday, 31 October 2025,” Shiningayamwe said.

According to her, the required vehicles are mainly double-cab pickups that are not older than 10 years. However, single-cab pickups and SUVs will also be considered for a waiting list if additional transportation is needed during the election period.

The engagement brought together representatives from Omusati Regional Council, political parties, civic organisations, religious and traditional leaders, and members of the public. The discussions aimed to strengthen coordination and ensure all stakeholders are prepared for the upcoming elections. During the same event, the returning officer for Tsandi constituency, Selma Kalume, outlined key activities in the region’s election schedule. Training for police officers and political party agents will take place from 5 to 6 November, followed by nine days of polling officials’ training from 7 to 15 November, conducted in constituency clusters. Kalume added that special voting, primarily for police officers and ECN officials deployed outside their constituencies, will take place two days before the election date.

Meanwhile, Voter Education Officer, Jarno Ileka, urged eligible voters who have lost their voter cards to apply for duplicates at their respective constituencies between 17 and 23 November 2025. Applicants will be required to present a police declaration during this period.

“We want every eligible voter to be ready and able to cast their vote without challenges,” Ileka emphasized. As preparations intensify, the ECN’s call highlights the critical role that public cooperation plays in ensuring a well-coordinated and successful election process in the Omusati region.
